5 reasons YOU need to switch up your beauty regimen this Spring

We’ve sprung forward, which means we’re trading heavy snow boots for button down peacoats and our previous thick, velvety skincare products for lighter, dewy  ones that will give us the luscious glow we’ve been desperately craving all winter. With the sun warm enough to kiss our skin, we’re surely back on track to having our skin producing its normal levels of oil.

So what's the perfect way to kick off the season? I’m glad you asked! You’ll want to start with a facial that’ll remove the dry skin debris and build up stuck in your skin from the previous months. Then, your focus is to repair your skin. The first few layers of your skin is more than likely dehydrated, and dry from the cold, biting temperatures and indoor heat. This harsh weather we’ve endured is sure to leave your skin’s moisture barrier requiring some serious TLC.

Here are 5 tips for getting your skin back on track as we shift from winter to spring

1. Ditch the thick facial cleanser

If you normally switch your products every season, it means you may have been using a thick creamy moisturizer to add in a boost of hydration while cleansing. If you haven't, your skin may be extremely dry from lack of hydration. As the weather gets warmer you’ll want to add a lighter cleanser into your routine that will deep clean and hydrate without adding an excessive amount of oil.

2. Add an exfoliator into your routine

Now that the weather is warmer you can add an exfoliator back into your skin care routine to get rid of any build up your skin may produce during this time. Exfoliating will help unclog your pores leaving it smoothe, this is the perfect way to get that glow we all so desperately need after those cold winter months.

2. Add antioxidants like a Vitamin C serum into your routine

Winter had us slathering on a significant amount of product for the last couple of months. However, you’ll need to leave that alone until next winter, opt for a lighter product with a thinner consistency so your skin can breathe. A wonderful option I swear by, is Vitamin C serum (You will need to add SPF on top of this) as it brightens, evens out skin tone and reduces signs of aging.

4. Don't forget the SPF

Suncreen is a necessity all year round, but it is especially important in the warmer months. Every morning, put on at least SPF 30, whether it's already in your moisturizer or you throw it on top of your favorite serum or toner. Although it may be one extra step added to your morning routine, your skin will thank you.

5. Book a facial

If you're waiting on a reminder to get a facial, here it is. Getting quarterly or seasonal facials is an excellent way to get your pH levels back on track; not only that, but after a year of wearing masks, it's something we all need. This helps your skin adjust to the new weather and protect against climate related elements. The type of facial you’ll need is based on your skincare needs and goals.
