Welcome to The Soft Life

Is your social media feeds flooded with quotes, images, and bold proclamations of women, and even men, declaring that they are leaving hustle culture behind to embrace The Soft Life? If you've been wondering what this trend is all about and, most importantly, how you can adopt a softer way of life, you've come to the right place.

Here at Beautiology Studio and Spa, we are about helping our clients achieve The Soft Life (on their own terms).

What Is The Soft Life?

The therapist here at Beautiology Studio and Spa searched high and low for this answer, and here's what we found:

The Soft Life is defined differently for everyone.

For the entrepreneur and CEO, The Soft Life could involve carving out time to relax and indulge in hobbies and activities that bring joy outside work. For the ambitious college student, It might look like taking a yoga class, getting a regular massage, or cooking a nourishing meal instead of eating out. The stay-at-home mom may define a softer life as a journey that involves accepting help from friends and family, enforcing boundaries, and saying no to activities that don't bring joy or allow room to rest!

What is consistent across the board is that The Soft Life requires spending time with yourself and making time to indulge in life. It's about prioritizing self-care.

We believe that self-care is holistic. It's a focus on the mind, body, and spirit.

At Beautiology Studio and Spa, creating a softer life begins with the intention behind your self-care practices. For us, this trend is all about a sacred self-care regimen.

What is Sacred Self-Care?

Sacred self-care is honoring your body in a way that has less to do with how you look and more with how you feel on the inside. Our bodies, especially our skin, are a window to our internal health. When we slow down to spend time with our bodies, we also care for our whole selves. Our bodies, especially our skin, give us information about our internal health.

When you prioritize self-care, it becomes easier to let go of things that don't serve you - like negative thoughts, toxic relationships, and unhealthy habits because you understand how much your mind, body, and spirit are connected.

In an article written by Sheridan Chanel for XONecole, Jaz Turner, a Content Creator/Influencer, stated that [People] have a habit of confusing "soft life" with "luxury."

We couldn't agree more; spa treatments like facials, massages, and body wraps are often considered a luxury. As beauty therapists, we believe self-care is necessary, not a luxury. Still, clients new to this concept visit our Long Island studio and struggle with the idea that the benefits of self-care expand beyond the physical and superficial. That is until the benefits of self-care show up in their interactions.

While facials are designed to improve the skin's overall appearance, they can also act as preventative care. Massages offer various health benefits, like reducing anxiety and improving circulation. Body wraps are not just for special occasions. They have been used to detoxify the skin.

Who Created The "Soft Life" Trend?

The idea of Sacred Self-Care has been around for decades; At the same time, we can't officially say who started the trend, but we do know that the concept of Sacred Self-Care, which is our characterization of The Soft Life, started with Debrena Gandy- Jackson's best-selling book, Sacred Pampering Principles, which was published in 1997.

Since then, the term has been used by Millennials and Generation Z-ers to describe the act of removing oneself from the hustle and grind culture.

"The Soft Life" started trending on Tik Tok in early 2018. It made its way across social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, with articles like "How to Embrace the 'Soft Life' Movement" and "What is the 'Soft Life?'" appearing on popular sites with influencers from New York and around capturing moments of them living their version of The Soft Life.

How To Make The Soft Life Work For You:

  1. Define what The Soft Life means to you

In reality, it is impossible to live a life void of stress, but we can reduce stress through massage, meditation, and mindfulness.

Ask yourself: What brings me peace? What am I passionate about?

Write a list of everything that brings you enjoyment.

  1. Identify the areas of your life where you need more self-care

Self-care can be broken down into several areas: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Ask yourself what areas you need to focus on to feel more balanced. Each area requires a different level of self-care. Rate your level of satisfaction in each area using a scale of 1-10, with

  1. Set realistic goals

Now that you have identified the areas of your life that need attention, it's time to set some goals. Look back at the list you created to see which area you scored the lowest in. Set self-care goals there first.

  1. Prioritize self-care
